Meeting Minimum Spending on Credit Cards
I have several cards which have $500 spending requirements to earn $150 in rewards. They are the Chase Freedom Unlimited and the Chase Freedom. In addition to organic spend, you can MS by opening bank accounts that allow for credit card funding. This is very useful if you need to meet minimum spending requirements for cards that require $3000+ within the first 3 months such as the Chase Sapphire Preferred/Reserve or the Chase Ink Business.
So far, I have loaded
So far, I have loaded
- CHU to load a PNC savings account. Max is $2,000 per load. It counted as a purchase and netted me 3,000 Unlimited Rewards points
- CHU to load a Quorum Federal Credit Union savings account. Max is $2,500 per load. My application is still pending so the "purchase" hasn't posted yet.
In order to prevent any cash advance charges, I set the cash advance limit to $200. That way, if I charged any amount above the limit, it would get rejected by the bank. This is to safeguard against situations where Chase codes the transaction as a cash advance.
For a list of data points of what bank account funding is considered a cash advance, the good Doctor has compiled a very extensive list.

I am planning to load these once the above bank accounts are fully accessible to me
- CHU to load a PNC checking account for $2,000. I may open an account in my parent's name to hit another $4,000.
- CHU CountryBank to load $2,000. I may not use this bank as there is only one data point for this.
